Everyone loves an enjoyable holiday. Whether your ideal vacation is sipping a cocktail on a sandy white beach, wandering through museums or hiking through nature, you should spend your time doing something you love.
A significant factor in how good your holiday will be is deciding where to go. To make it slightly more comfortable for you, I have compiled a list of ten of the best holiday spots in Europe.
Austria has always been a beautiful country, but there was very little to do once you got there. All that had changed in recent times, when the city reinvented itself to become as appealing as possible to tourists.
Behind all of the beautiful architecture, you can now visit a variety of museums and art galleries in Vienna and other major cities. Classical music buffs can also listen to the beautiful sounds of talented musicians in the Musikverein, a well-known concert hall that is now over 150 years old.
Portugal frequently tops the list of holiday getaways for many tourists, but few of them venture to the Douro River. See the country from a different perspective on a cruise. You can still hop hop off and experience the Portuguese wineries and ports and then re-embark for a journey of luxury and stunning views as you travel.
This destination is perfect for surfers, or anyone willing to step out of their comfort zone. Klitmoller is well-known for its surf and has been nicknamed “Cold Hawaii.” Professional surfers will enjoy their time here, but it’s also safe enough for beginners to learn in the waters as well.If surfing isn’t your thing, it’s pretty close to Thy National Park, which is comprised of pine forests and lakes. After a long day exploring the outdoors, don’t forget to stop by Toft Hansen, one of the best restaurants in the city.
If you love the hustle and bustle of cities, then skip all the tourist lines in London and go to Manchester. The town has strong working-class roots and has recently become one of the fastest-growing cities in the UK.Despite humble beginnings, there are some classy boutique hotels in the area to provide a comfortable stay, and a variety of world-class restaurants to frequent, offering cuisines from all corners of the globe.
Macedonia doesn’t have a thriving tourism industry, which makes it the perfect spot for those who want an authentic experience away from other holiday makers. Hidden away in this gem of a country are numerous fortresses and other historic sites. The country is overflowing with unique culture, so while you’re there, try and attend a concert or festival. Don’t forget to sample some of their local cuisines, either.
Another spot that is perfect for dodging all of the Greek areas that are overpopulated with tourists, Paros is waiting. It looks and feels just like Santorini, with the dazzling white buildings with blue roofs standing in the sun. There are several modern and classy hotels popping up, so you can enjoy a lavish stay on the island.
EUR stands for Esposizione Universale Roma, the city’s heaving business district. Although the area has recently undergone some renovations in an attempt to modernize it, you can still see the remains of the 1930’s architecture from when it was built. For many, it can also serve as a reminder of the country’s fascist past, which is exciting and essential never to forget, lest it happens again. If you get too tired of the touristy spots in the city, this offers a better glimpse into the city from the eyes of a local.
Rijeka is a destination that you want to see sooner rather than later. It is because although the city has a healthy amount of tourism now, that’s set to explode once it is crowned the European Capital of Culture. Hosting one of the most significant annual Carnival events in the world, Rijeka offers arts of every kind, in festivals, museums, and performances. You can also relax at one of the calm Adriatic beaches, or indulge your tastebuds at one of the local seafood restaurants, with food cooked fresh in this seaport town.
Tbilisi has undergone significant redevelopments since Georgia became an independent country after the fall of the USSR. Wander the city and get lost in the maze of streets, which are a blend of it’s older cobble-stones, and new, modern bars and restaurants. It has become a thriving hub for up-and-coming artists, wine connoisseurs, and chefs, so there is always something exciting to see and taste in this hipster paradise.
No matter where in Europe you travel, there’s bound to be a holiday destination to suit your tastes. Whether you prefer sticking to the guidebook or going off the beaten track, remember always to stay safe and have fun! I
